Principal and Senior Reservoir Engineers

BG Group

Key opportunities for specialists and generalists with a business committed to the North Sea

Background and Context

A leading player in the global energy market, BG Group is a dynamic growing business with operations in more than 25 countries over five continents.  The company has one of the most significant exploration and production businesses in the North Sea and its UK Upstream asset produces 57 mmboe per annum.  They are partners in some of the most exciting and challenging North Sea fields and also have a very active new developments and exploration programme.

Summary

We are keen to recruit talented, experienced individuals to work on UK asset projects.  Suitable candidates are likely to be mid-career professionals with a breadth of skills across oil and gas assets.  Opportunities are available up to Principal Consultant level.  These roles will have a strong bottom line impact in terms of protecting core business, supporting new business initiatives and developing innovative ideas and solutions.  General requirements are set out below.

Key Accountabilities

As well as providing reservoir engineering expertise and evaluations you will be required to:

  • Represent the company at partner meetings and TCMs.
  • Propose, develop and support subsurface work, often complex, to gain internal and partner approval for operator recommendations/proposals (infill wells, incremental developments, reserves evaluations).
  • Define and deliver work scopes within subsurface work programmes, ensuring full implementation of the company's subsurface policies and standards, incorporating all reservoir engineering uncertainties;
  • Implement, maintain and improve RE functional excellence across asset projects.
  • Act as RE focal point within the project.
  • Provide expert advice/analysis on RE techniques to asset staff and management and provide first line QA/QC for all work within the asset/team.
  • Contribute to the subsurface community.

Authority/Influence over Resources

  • These are technical roles that are also concerned with long term business planning and managing contracts and projects.
  • In addition, job holders will be expected to contribute to the improvement of technical systems and procedures to include the coaching of other reservoir engineers within the asset as required; providing assurance and QC of asset RE work; advising and providing support within the asset on the selection and recruitment of other RE technical staff and - where peaks in work necessitate support - securing and managing additional resources.

Internal/External Interaction

  • As well as interacting with the subsurface teams and management teams, typical internal interaction is with other business delivery managers, subsurface functional peers & managers, and head office subsurface specialists and assurance specialists.
  • Job holders may also have responsibility for internal and external technical alignment with relevant stakeholders e.g. governments, partners and contractors.
  • In addition they may be required to develop technical links to relevant local industry, university and professional institutions and might chair sessions or give Key Note Addresses at relevant external conferences.
  • Externally, job holders must support and influence JV partners.

Experience Required

  • Ideally, you should have experience in North Sea basins, plays and reservoirs (and be recognised as a professional and industry leader for Principal level roles). Additional experience in other locations is preferred.
  • Specific expertise in areas such as gas condensate field management, black oil simulation, water injection, late life field work, fraccing and HP/HT environments is of particular interest.
  • Experience of working with an Operator leading a significant joint venture would be an advantage.
  • Expertise in reservoir management, near field satellite development and late field life extension.
  • Experience of delivering operated well programmes is required for projects in the operated business delivery unit.
  • Experience as a Value Assurance practitioner is also significant.

Skills, Knowledge, Aptitude and Ability

To be a candidate for these roles, you must be able to work independently with little supervision, to propose priorities and agree them with management, to manage your own time and to work to tight deadlines, under pressure when necessary.  Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate:

  • expert knowledge of how reservoir simulation impacts on field development (and the ability to use this to validate the work of the operator on non-operated projects);
  • a collaborative and adaptive working style;
  • good problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability quickly to determine the approximate impact of each issue, in order to prioritise further work;
  • skills in engaging and facilitating others to think and plan new actions;
  • strong influencing skills, with the ability to effectively influence at all levels both internally and externally;
  • the ability to work with, gain the confidence and respect of and influence senior management within the company, and with key customers and JV partners;
  • effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • familiarity with Eclipse, Sapphire and Petrel Petroleum Experts applications.

Organisational Structure

The company operates a fairly flat reporting hierarchy and these roles will report to a  Subsurface Manager.

Remuneration

A comprehensive and attractive remuneration package will be provided,  including flexible benefits.  Relocation assistance is available if appropriate.
