They have a core expertise in the Central North Sea where they operate the producing Buzzard, Scott/Telford and Ettrick fields and with 300,000 boepd they are the second largest North Sea liquids producer.

They also have an enviable record of exploration success and have made several operated discoveries, including Golden Eagle - the largest North Sea find in 10 years. 

Position Overview

This position is as the development geologist to support future infill, appraisal and development options for the Ettrick/Blackbird team.  Specifically, the post holder will focus 60% on Ettrick/Blackbird requirements, and 40% on contingent resources portfolio.  The Buzzard/Ettrick Subsurface Manager and the Ettrick Team Leader will be key interfaces for the Ettrick and Blackbird elements, along with the Scott Area Subsurface Manager who will be the key interface for the contingent resources team.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

1. Ettrick (estimated time 30%)

  • Provide development geology support for model re-build and updates of the Ettrick producing field which came on stream in August 2009.
  • Integrate the new dynamic information into latest static model update and support the maturation of infill drilling targets and the subsequent development production / injection wells.
  • Ensure potential phase 2 Ettrick drilling campaign in 2010/2011 has solid G&G technical input.
  • Development well execution.

2. Blackbird (estimate time 30%)

  • Support potential appraisal of Blackbird discovery in Q2 2010.
  • New seismic (PreSTM/PreSDM) will impact the decision to appraise in 2010 and potentially develop Blackbird via Ettrick by end 2011. A range of new static / dynamic model will be built in order to support the targeting of appraisal and potential development keeper well(s).

3. Contingent resources (estimated time 40%)

  • Act as the development geologist for the subsurface contingent resources team.
  • A number of discoveries in the Nexen core areas subsurface portfolio, both in the Buzzard Area, and in the Scott Area require an updated view on their potential for development or divestment. This work requires part-time development geologist support.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum Bachelors degree in a relevant Earth Science, preferably a relevant post graduate qualification (MSc/PhD).
  • Significant relevant experience, ideally some of which gained with an operator.
  • Able to integrate conceptual geological models and engineering data into 3D static models.
  • A good communicator and team player, working in close co-operation with geophysicists, petrophysicists and reservoir engineers.
  • Skilled in the characterisation of complex reservoirs and their uncertainties, as well as appraisal and development well planning.
  • Fluent in English - written and spoken, with the ability to write high quality technical reports.
